CHIGEE has announced the XR-1, a new motorcycle dash cam system aimed at riders who want continuous video recording without adding another display to their handlebars.
While CHIGEE is perhaps best known for its range of motorcycle smart displays and connectivity systems, the XR-1 takes a different approach. Instead of providing a screen-based riding experience, it focuses purely on recording your journeys while remaining largely hidden from view.
One of the first things that stands out about the XR-1 is its compact design. The main recording unit is designed to be tucked away inside the motorcycle, helping to keep the cockpit looking clean and uncluttered.
The front and rear cameras remain visible, but the bulk of the system can be installed out of sight, making it an attractive option for riders who don't want extra screens or gadgets mounted to their handlebars.
The XR-1 features dual cameras, allowing it to record both the road ahead and behind the motorcycle.
According to CHIGEE, both cameras record in 1080P Full HD at up to 60 frames per second. The system also incorporates Smart HDR technology, image stabilisation and a 136-degree wide-angle field of view, helping to capture more of the surrounding environment during a ride.
For many riders, having footage from both directions could prove useful in the event of an accident or insurance claim.

Like many modern dash cam systems, the XR-1 is designed to operate automatically.
Once connected to the motorcycle's power supply, the system starts recording when the bike is switched on and stops when the ignition is turned off. This means riders don't need to remember to manually activate recording before setting off.
The system also supports loop recording, automatically overwriting older footage when storage becomes full.
An interesting feature highlighted by CHIGEE is the inclusion of voice notifications.
Rather than relying solely on indicator lights, the XR-1 can provide spoken alerts if it detects a problem, such as an issue with recording or storage. This should help riders identify potential problems before an important piece of footage is missed.
The XR-1 also includes a Parking Guard mode.
When enabled, the system can monitor the motorcycle while parked and record activity if vibration or impacts are detected. This feature is becoming increasingly common on motorcycle camera systems and may offer some additional peace of mind when leaving a bike unattended.
Motorcycles present a challenging environment for electronic equipment, so durability is an important consideration.
CHIGEE states that the XR-1's main unit carries an IP69K waterproof rating, while the cameras are rated IP68. The company also highlights vibration resistance and heat-management features intended to improve reliability during everyday riding.
These specifications suggest the system has been designed with year-round motorcycle use in mind.
The XR-1 works alongside the CHIGEE GO smartphone app, allowing riders to access recorded footage, adjust settings and download video clips directly to their phone.
Connectivity is handled via Bluetooth 5.0 and 5GHz Wi-Fi, helping to speed up file transfers when reviewing recordings.
The system supports microSD cards up to 256GB in capacity.
CHIGEE also offers an optional GPS remote control accessory.
Mounted on the handlebars, this accessory can provide quick access to functions while also recording route and ride data that can later be viewed within the app.

On paper, the CHIGEE XR-1 looks to be an interesting addition to the growing motorcycle dash cam market.
Rather than trying to combine navigation, smartphone mirroring and camera functions into a single device, CHIGEE appears to have focused on creating a dedicated recording system that can be installed discreetly and left to work in the background.
For riders looking for front and rear video recording without adding another screen to their motorcycle, the XR-1 is certainly a product worth keeping an eye on.
